Iwona Handzlik

lyric coloratura soprano

Polish lyric coloratura soprano, Iwona Handzlik, started her musical education playing piano, which she graduated at the S. Moniuszko State Music School in 1999. She continued her studies at the K. Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice at the vocal department. In 2004 she received Socrates-Erasmus scholarship in Lubeck in Germany. As a third-year student Ms. Handzlik began to collaborate with the Musical Theater in Lublin, where she performed for 2 years as Hanna in The Haunted Manor by S. Moniuszko.

From 2006 she was engaged as a soloist at the Wrocław Opera, where she was singing such parts as: Musetta in La bohème, Gilda in Rigoletto, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Olympia in Les contes d’Hoffmann, 1st Blumenmädchen in Parsifal, Nanetta in Falstaff, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera.

She collaborated with many Opera Houses in Poland: Krakow Opera, Silesian Opera in Bytom, as well as the Zabrze and Wałbrzych Philharmonics. In 2006 she made her stage debut at the Polish National Opera, singing Adele’s part during the New Year’s Concert.

 

In the 2016/2017 season she sung the part of Papagena in the noted Komische Oper Berlin production of Die Zauberflöte staged by Barrie Kosky. She has also debuted at the Castle Opera in Szczecin with the part of Oscar in Un ballo in maschera.

 

She performed in Belgium, Netherlands, France, Canada, Thailand, Australia and Italy. In the

 

In the 2018/2019 season appeared in premiere productions as Hanna in The Haunted Manor and Despina in Cosi fan tutte at the Polish Royal Opera, as well as Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Wrocław Opera. The 2019/2020 season is marked by her debut as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Polish Royal Opera.

 

In February 2021 she created Sandrina in La finta giardinera at the Polish Royal Opera as well as Lucia in The rape of Lucretia in June 2021  as well as Lucia in The rape of Lucretia in June 2021.
