Sebastian Szumski

He graduates with honors from the Voice and Drama Faculty of the Academy of Music in Kraków in the class of de Marek Rzepka. He perfected his skills during numerous master classes supervised by Helena Lazarska, Eva Blahova, Charles Kellys, Rudolf Piernay, Ryszard Karczykowski and Teresa Żylis- Gara.

 

In 2008 he debuted on the stage during Barbacanfestival in Krakow, where he played the part of Count Almaviva in the opera Le nozze di Figaro by W. A. Mozart. In 2009 and 2010 he performed at the Belcanto International Vocals Festival in Naleczow and won the Gold Nightingale Award, the audience award and the Polish Federation of Performing Artists Award. In 2010 he received the Opera Studio Scholarship in Verdi Theatre in Pisa and in 2010/2011 season performed the part of maestro in the opera Le convenienze e inconvenienze teatrali by G. Donizetti. He also sang the part of Maestro in theaters in Tuscany: Lucca and Livorno.

He performed in almost every European country and collaborated with esteemed pianists, including Andrzej Tatarski, Marcin Koziak, Piotr Różański, and reputable conductors like Jan Tomasz Adamus, Krzysztof Penderecki, Stefan Stuligrosz, Piotr Sułkowski, Federico Maria Sardelli, Allesandro de Marchi, Paul McCreesh, Joshua Riffkin, Andrew Parrot, Vincent Dumestre, Fabio Bonizzoni.

He is a part of several albums, radio and television recordings, including J. S. Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium CD with Arte dei Suonatori, a DVD with the II Copernican Symphony by H. M. Górecki and a complete CD recording of Bach's motets, produced with solo cast for the prominent French studio Alpha.

 

His repertoire ranges from Renaissance polyphonic to contemporary pieces, including song cycles, solo parts in the oratorios and the operas by Händel, Purcell, Mozart, Donizetti, Rossini and Leoncavallo. Recently he specializes in the Baroque music and collaborates with Arte dei Suonatori, la Poem Harmonique and La Risonanza. Currently Sebastian Szumski works as a chamber musician and a soloist for one of the most acclaimed European early music ensembles, Capella Cracoviensis.

In September 2018 he had created the part of Father 3 (Father Sociobiolog) in opera prapremiere wrote by Alek Nowak Ahat Ili – Sister of Gods, based on Olga Tokarczuk's libretto, presented during festival Sacrum Profanum. Opera was created based on Olga Tokarczuk's novel Anna In in the tombs of the world.
